Substation
A substation is the point on a power network where voltage is changed by transformers, and where switching and protection equipment controls the flow of power. For a renewable plant, the nearest substation with spare capacity decides how, and how cheaply, its power can reach the grid.
Large solar and wind parks often feed a pooling substation that collects several plants before stepping power up to transmission voltage.
Distance to a substation with room to take more power is one of the first things checked on any site, because a long new line can change the economics of a project.
