Interconnection queue
An interconnection queue is the list of generation projects waiting for approval to connect to the grid. Each application is studied for what the network can carry, and projects move through in order. A long queue can delay a project by longer than it takes to build.
Where the grid near a site has little spare capacity, a project may be offered a connection only after new lines or substation upgrades are built.
Checking the connection position early is part of choosing a site, because a project that cannot connect cannot sell its power.
