Carbon and credits

Reversal

A reversal is stored carbon returning to the atmosphere after it was counted as removed. A burnt plantation, a cleared block, soil disturbed by ploughing. Registries hold buffer pools against it, which means every project contributes credits it cannot sell, as insurance.

Reversal is why forestry credits and durable removal credits are priced differently, even at the same tonne count.

Continuous monitoring is what catches a reversal early enough to report it, which is why sensors go in from the first season.
