Open access
Open access is the right to use the public transmission and distribution network to move electricity from a generator to a chosen buyer, rather than selling it to the local utility. It is what lets a company buy power directly from a specific renewable site.
The rules, charges and eligibility differ by state, so whether a given arrangement works is a state level question rather than a national one.
It is the mechanism behind most corporate renewable procurement in India, and the charges attached to it are usually what decide whether a deal closes.
