Electrolyser
An electrolyser splits water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity. Run on renewable power, the hydrogen it makes is called green hydrogen. On a site with surplus generation it converts energy that would otherwise be curtailed into a product that can be stored and sold.
It is a flexible load, which is the useful property here. It can absorb a surplus at the moment the surplus exists.
Its economics depend almost entirely on the cost of the electricity going in and on how many hours a year it runs.
