Carbon removal
Carbon removal takes carbon dioxide that is already in the atmosphere and puts it somewhere else, in a plant, in soil, in rock or underground. It is distinct from reducing emissions, which only slows how fast more is added.
Removal and reduction are different products. Stopping a tonne being emitted holds the atmosphere where it is. Removing a tonne moves it back.
Buyers holding themselves to strict standards have concentrated their purchasing on removal, and within removal on the forms that are hardest to undo.
