Block plantation
A block plantation is a contiguous area planted as one unit, usually with a small number of species in rows. It is fast to establish, simple to cost and simple to count, which is why public programmes favour it, and it carries the fragility of any monoculture.
Layered planting is the alternative. It takes more administration and stands up better over time.
Where a block plantation is the right answer, it is usually because the objective is biomass on a short cycle rather than a restored ecosystem.
